In this section, we are pleased to provide you with detailed information about the hair transplant process and answers to the most frequently asked questions. Hair transplantation is a surgical procedure that aims to restore natural hair growth in people with hair loss. We accompany you with frequently asked questions and their answers. If you have any further questions or would like personalized information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
It is advisable to avoid the consumption of tobacco or tobacco products such as cigarettes, cigars, e-cigarettes (electronic cigarettes), shisha, hookah (…). We advise our patients not to smoke one day before and a few days after the operation. Nicotine is a trigger for increased bleeding and has a strong influence on the course of the operation and the duration of the healing process.
We would like to emphasize that the toxins in tobacco products are extremely harmful to the hair follicles and grafts and can negatively affect the outcome of your hair transplant. If the patient is unable to stop smoking at least one day before the operation, we recommend minimizing the consumption of tobacco products.
As a hair transplant is a cosmetic procedure, it is not usually covered by insurance.
There are a large number of recommended clinics for carrying out your hair transplant. With so many to choose from, we advise you to find out as much as possible about the clinic/hospital, the surgeons and their team, the procedure itself, the hygiene regulations and the guarantee of a sterile environment during the operation and the quality of the products used during and before the hair transplant. The websites and reviews of former patients will give you a good basis for choosing your hair transplant clinic.
Special care should be taken not to consume alcohol, tobacco products, green tea, coffee or blood thinners (e.g. aspirin) for up to 10 days before the hair transplant.
Before the operation, a hematogram is performed using a blood sample to check the amount of white and red blood cells in your blood and to ensure that there is no anemia or infection. At the same time, your blood will also be tested for communicable diseases such as HIV, hepatitis B, syphilis (…).
You will be asked to pay on the same day of your operation and can pay by cash or credit card. If you choose to pay with your credit card, make sure you have your cell phone and data roaming with you, as you may receive a text message from your bank to verify the payment. Please also note that additional charges apply when paying by credit card.
Your front hairline will be discussed with our medical team before the operation. The hair transplant team will reconstruct your front hairline, taking into account your personal wishes and aspects such as your age, the size of the thinning areas and the shape of your face.
We strongly recommend that you avoid smoking or using other tobacco products such as cigarettes, cigars, e-cigarettes (electronic cigarettes), shisha and water pipes or similar. The direct consumption of tobacco products after the operation means that your body is not supplied with sufficient oxygen and therefore slows down the healing process. This also means that you will not get the best results from your hair transplant. Keep in mind that nicotine in any form causes excessive bleeding and the toxins in tobacco products affect the growth of hair follicles. If you cannot give up smoking just before the procedure, make sure that you reduce your consumption to a minimum.
Yes, you will be able to walk after the procedure, but make sure that you feel well after the local anesthesia before you get up and start walking. So take some time to relax after the operation before you stand upright and leave the clinic after your hair transplant.
Wearing headgear such as a helmet, hat or cap is possible again two weeks after the hair transplant.
It is generally not recommended to cut or shave the hair in the donor area very short after the operation. The reason for this is that it slows down hair regrowth in this area. After the hair transplant, your hair in the donor area will have a lower density as the transplanted hair was taken from this area. For this reason, it would be visible from the outside if you cut the hair in the donor area shorter than one centimeter. We therefore recommend that you do not cut your hair directly to just above the scalp after the operation.
During a hair transplant, grafts including the hair root are removed from the donor area and implanted in the recipient area. The removed part in the donor area therefore does not grow back.
We recommend a balanced diet with plenty of fruit, vegetables and lean meat, chicken, etc., as well as plenty of fluids in the form of water and unsweetened tea. This will help you to balance your vitamin, mineral and protein levels, which is particularly beneficial for hair growth. If you follow a special diet, please do not hesitate to contact us, we will be happy to advise you.
Wearing a cap or similar head covering should be avoided for up to 2 weeks after the operation. We can provide you with special protective headgear on request to keep your head away from environmental influences such as dust, rain and sun.
After your operation, a PH-neutral shampoo or a shampoo without chemicals is recommended to be used for at least 6 months after the operation. Please ask us for further recommendations.
Visiting the solarium or sunbathing (direct UV radiation) should be avoided for at least 6 months after the hair transplant.
In the first 2 weeks after the operation, it is recommended that you wash your head carefully every day.
After the operation, we will put a headband on you to prevent your head or face from swelling. It is very rare for swelling to occur in the face after a hair transplant. If swelling does occur, it will disappear within a week. We recommend that you avoid salty food after the operation and drink at least 3 liters of water or unsweetened tea.
The headband can be removed 2-3 days after the treatment.
We advise against having sex for up to two days after the operation. Sexual intercourse increases blood flow and blood pressure, which puts pressure on the transplanted hair roots and can push them out. Between the third (3rd) and tenth (10th) day after the hair transplant, you can be sexually active again, but you must be very careful that you do not lie with your gnach down or that neither you nor your partner touch the transplanted area. After two weeks you can resume your usual sexual activities.
It is advisable not to shorten the hair with a razor or shaving machine for at least six months after the hair transplant.
We can assure you that the privacy of our patients is our absolute priority. We respect your right to privacy and will sign a confidentiality agreement or non-disclosure agreement in accordance with your wishes to protect your privacy. Otherwise, we will not publish photos or share information about you without your written permission or consent.
Yes, hair transplantation is the most effective method to date for replenishing bald patches caused by hair loss or areas where hair is thinning.
In most cases, you will only feel a very slight pain for a few seconds while the local anesthetic is being injected. Afterwards, the hair transplant itself no longer causes any pain.
In general, patients can undergo hair transplantation after the age of 18. The planning of such an operation depends on the density of the hair and the patient’s current hair loss. If the patient is healthy and has no health problems that could affect hair growth, the performance of a hair transplant or the patient’s health, surgery is possible into old age.
Whether an operation alone is sufficient to completely fill in the hair depends on the quality of the hair follicles in the donor area and the size of the bald patches in relation to the donor area. With our medical team, you can be sure that the maximum number of grafts will be used to give you a satisfactory result.
Hair transplantation carries almost no risk. Side effects are rare and even then only minimal. Patients may experience redness, itching or dry skin, which do not last long and can be easily treated. However, if you keep the scalp clean, wash it regularly and take the medication as prescribed, you may not experience any of the side effects mentioned above.
In general, hair transplantation is very successful, as 95% of transplanted grafts are accepted and grow.
The result of your hair transplant depends on the density of your hair and the density of the donor area. The number of grafts harvested from the donor area can vary between four thousand (4000) and five thousand (5000). In rare cases, it is even possible to extract up to six thousand (6000) grafts from the donor area.
With active or untreated alopecia, the hair may not grow in these areas. After successful treatment of your alopecia, hair often grows back on its own. If bald patches are still present as a result, a hair transplant is a good option.
Hair transplantation is performed using the FUE method, in which all hair roots are removed and implanted individually, leaving no visible scars.
It is not necessary to undergo a hair transplant under general anesthesia, as it is not associated with severe pain and general anesthesia would put your body under unnecessary stress. The operation takes 6-8 hours under local anesthesia, during which you can watch TV, read or use your cell phone.
Hair loss in women is mostly hormonal, followed by factors such as pregnancy, stress, lifestyle, emotional fluctuations, breastfeeding, illness or personal environmental factors. Furthermore, the chemicals in hair coloring products can promote hair loss.
The most common method for hair transplantation is currently the FUE method, which can be used for any type of thinning area on the patient’s head.
A beard transplant is similar to a hair transplant, where the grafts are taken from the donor area (usually the back of the head) and implanted into the face. With this procedure, the density of the beard can be restored and a beard or mustache can be constructed. A beard transplant is only possible if the number of hairs in the donor area is sufficient.
After the first operation, it takes around 10 months for everything to heal completely and a total of 12 months for the full result to be seen. If the second hair transplant is performed too early, the roots that have not yet grown can be damaged by the re-tapping of canals. We recommend that you wait about 15 months after the first operation until the full result is visible.
Micro-FUE is a procedure in which the patient benefits from a larger amount of extracted grafts from the donor area. In comparison, with the normal FUE method, the extracted grafts are extracted with some additional skin from the scalp. During the Micro-FUE method, the shape of the incision is selected by the plastic surgeon to allow more grafts to be inserted per square centimeter and extracted with less skin. With the Micro-FUE method, more grafts can be extracted and transplanted to the bald area. In addition, compared to the normal FUE method, the Micro-FUE method ensures a shorter healing time and greater hair density of the donor area (back of the head) in terms of hair growth or hair coverage after the operation.
It is NOT permitted to consume alcoholic beverages or alcoholic products in any form for at least five (5) days before the operation
If possible, do not shave your hair close to the time of the hair transplant. In order to better plan the operation, our experts would like to assess your hair growth direction and density in advance. It is also important to mention that depending on the size of the transplant area, it may not be necessary to shave off all the hair. Regardless, it is recommended to shave the entire head immediately before the operation in order to create an ideal working basis for the hair transplant team to perform the procedure as effectively and precisely as possible. When it comes to your comfort after the operation, a full head shave is easier to maintain as it reduces possible itching and is more hygienic after the operation.
After the hair transplant, you should not do any sport or strenuous physical activity for at least 4 weeks. After 2 weeks, moderate exercise is possible as long as you are not sweating profusely. Heavy physical activity increases blood pressure, which puts unnecessary strain on the new transplanted area. Also make sure that the transplanted area does not come into contact with hands or sports equipment and damage the transplant area. If you are a professional athlete or dependent on heavy physical activity, try to perform these activities alone for about 2 weeks to avoid the risk of unwanted contact with the treated area. We especially recommend our patients to avoid yoga, boxing or other martial arts during the healing process. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
It is strictly forbidden to consume alcohol for at least seven (7) days before the operation. After the procedure, we also recommend that you do not consume alcohol in any form for at least one week, as you will be taking medication such as painkillers and antibiotics and this combination will have a negative effect on your body.
It is particularly important that you avoid swimming in pools or the sea for at least two weeks after the hair transplant.
You should avoid visiting a hairdresser for up to 4 weeks after the operation. For your first haircut after the hair transplant, make sure that you inform your hairdresser about the operation and show the treated areas as accurately as possible, as the transplant area will only be trimmed with scissors for the first 6 months and not with an electric razor or razor blades. The area that was unaffected by the hair transplant can be trimmed as desired. It is also important to ensure that your hairdresser adheres strictly to the hygiene regulations, especially during this time.
After a post-operative phase of 6 months, you can dye your hair again. The reason for this is the harmful and irritating chemicals in hair dyes, which would damage your transplanted grafts.
After the operation, you will notice that a few hairs fall out in the recipient area. This is common in hair transplant patients and is nothing to worry about. Hair growth begins 3-4 months after the operation and usually starts with so-called fine baby hair. From this point on, the transplanted area becomes denser and denser until you will see the full result of your hair transplant after about 12 months.
As long as your job does not involve heavy physical exertion or you have to wear equipment such as a helmet or cap, you can return to work two days after the operation. If this does not apply to you, you should wait at least ten days before returning to work. An increased heart rate during physically strenuous working conditions and possible sweating have a negative effect on the grafts and hair follicles and slow down the healing process after the hair transplant. The same applies to a working environment where you come into contact with a lot of dirt or dust and is not hygienic for the operated area. Please avoid the described working conditions for at least 10 days after the hair transplant.
In our experience, the initial healing phase will last 10-14 days. After 14 days, the scattered redness, scabs and dry skin flakes will be completely healed and barely visible.
After the hair transplant, it may be beneficial to take nutritional supplements. Especially if your blood results after the preliminary examination show that you are lacking minerals or vitamins, such as biotin, iron or vitamin D. If necessary, the doctor treating you will recommend possible dietary supplements.
We do not recommend the application of hair glossing agents or color powders under any circumstances. The glossing agent or color powder can damage your hair and cause hair loss. Avoid applying hair gloss or color powder for at least 6 months after the operation and make sure you wash it out very thoroughly afterwards.
Yes, as the procedure is performed under local anesthesia, you will be able to walk immediately afterwards.
Itching is a common side effect of a hair transplant. You can minimize itching by washing your hair. If you have sensitive skin, we recommend that you use creams or special lotions after the operation. Please let us know if the itching persists or worsens after an unusually long period of time.
The use of finasteride should be discussed with your GP as it is a hormone therapy that promotes hair growth but is also associated with side effects. It is possible to use finasteride pills or tablets after a hair transplant. If you are considered suitable for the use of finasteride and have noticed positive results after use, we strongly recommend that you continue to use it after the hair transplant.
The appearance of spots after the operation is rare and is a sign of possible side effects.
After the hair transplant, we will provide you with medication such as antibiotics and painkillers, which you will need to take for 7-10 days after the operation. We ask you to inform us about your current or previous use of medication and if you follow a particular diet. If necessary, we will be happy to recommend possible dietary supplements.
The use of gels, styling sprays, oils, hair care products or products containing chemicals should be avoided for at least 6 months after surgery. If you still need to use these products, please ensure that you wash them out very carefully and thoroughly.
Yes, a hair transplant is a permanent method of regaining hair, as the hair and its roots are removed from the donor area and implanted in the recipient area. As the hair taken from the donor area has the same genetic characteristics as the rest of your hair, there is no risk of the hair being shed.
To minimize possible pain, we use painless anesthesia. The method applies pressure to the skin at the back of the head or the top of the forehead (the recipient area) where the neck meets the underside of the head. This eliminates the need for conventional needle insertions or injections.
Your hair color is not important for hair transplantation. We have so far performed our operation with great success on patients with red, black, brown, white, gray, blond hair, etc. The texture of your hair, whether it is straight, wavy or curly, is also less important. Our medical team strives for excellence under all circumstances when performing the operation.
The duration of the hair transplant depends, among other things, on the patient’s place of residence. Patients living in Istanbul can undergo a hair transplant in one day, starting in the morning and ending in the afternoon. If the patient is traveling from another city or country, the procedure can take up to three days, including consultation, preparation, surgery, follow-up and hair washing. Most of our patients can travel back on the day of the operation after the first hair wash.
For aesthetic reasons, we advise against using hair roots from another person. The insertion of another person’s hair roots is similar to the process of organ donation, it is not guaranteed that the roots will be accepted by your body. The hair removed from the other person may be rejected by your body and would not give you a satisfactory result. In theory it is possible, but not advisable if you consider that you will also have to take immune blockers, which are very expensive and carry certain health risks.
Due to the fact that the hair transplant is performed under local anesthesia and not under general anesthesia, we reduce all risks for the patient to a minimum.
As the patient’s own hair is implanted during a hair transplant, the result looks very natural. Furthermore, when planning the procedure, our team takes into account important aspects such as the donor and recipient area, the direction of hair growth, the removal of the grafts, the opening of the channels, the course of the hairline, the facial contours and more.
Patients must bear in mind that not everyone is the ideal candidate for a hair transplant. If the operation is performed at a young age with active hair loss, it is possible that a second operation will be required. However, this is not a sign that the hair transplant has failed, but that you have opted for the treatments prematurely. During the consultation before the hair transplant, you will be informed of the possible results of the procedure. The success of the treatment depends on several factors, such as your state of health and the professionalism of the treatment team.
Diabetes is no reason to avoid a hair transplant. Before you start treatment, you should visit your GP to ensure that you have a well-controlled blood sugar level. It is advisable to have a stable blood sugar level for at least 10 days before the operation. Don’t forget to take your medication regularly and make sure you have a balanced diet. The only aspect that can affect hair transplantation is that the healing process of diabetics is slower and can therefore also increase the risk of infection, so you should pay close attention to the above aspects.
Hair transplantation is performed under local anesthesia and consists of three main steps: â–ª Extracting the grafts from the donor area â–ª Opening the microchannels in the recipient area â–ª Implanting the grafts in the recipient area
Hair loss in men is mostly genetic, followed by factors such as stress, medication, age, illness or personal environmental factors.
Can women also undergo a hair transplant? Once the cause of the hair loss has been determined, hair transplantation is of course also possible for women. If you wish, we can also use hair transplantation to pull your hairline forward and thus reduce the size of your forehead, giving your face even more feminine features.
Is there an ideal time of year for a hair transplant? Hair transplantation is independent of the seasons and can therefore be carried out at any time of the year.
Similar to hair transplantation, in beard transplantation using the FUE method, grafts are taken from the donor area (usually the back of the head) and implanted in the face to increase the density of facial hair or to give your beard or moustache a fuller shape.
Between 35 and 60 grafts per square centimeter can be implanted during the operation. The number of grafts depends on the size of the recipient area and the transplantation method used.
What is the Sapphire method for hair transplants? The sapphire hair transplant technique is currently the latest method of hair transplantation. With this method, the channels are cut in a V-shape using a special sapphire stone. Unlike older methods, the V-shape ensures less bleeding during and after the operation.
With the sapphire method, the patient benefits from a higher number of grafts, as more channels can be opened per square centimeter. In addition, the healing time is shortened and a higher hair density is achieved in the transplanted area, which ensures a more natural-looking end result.
